Aquarium visit
I have been to the Seattle aquarium before! Previously I didn't see the wolf eel so that's something new! they were pretty cute I got to see one fed and a juvenile one! I think that the most interesting thing I learned on the trip was that the warmer weather and sunnier days creating algae blooms prompt fish to go into a reproductive cycle because there's more food. Which makes sense but its also not something you'd think of on a day to day basis (unless you're a marine biologist) I also learned that yellow eyed rock fish are in their reproductive prime at 50-60 years old have a ton (thousand?) babies at one time, and can live to be 100 years old. I didn't really learn anything that changed my perspective on the PNW ecosystem just because I've lived here my whole life and I've visited the sound an aquarium a lot! My one question is why did the yellow eyed rock fish only have one eye? The pair that was swimming around both only had one eye so was it a deformation or an injury or something else?
That's super cool you got to see the wolf eel get fed, and also that you got to see a younger one. When I saw it, it was all shy and laying down in the corner. I wish I could've seen it being fed.
ReplyDeleteI also noticed those 2 fishes that only had one eye! I'm guessing that they had some infection so they had surgery on it. But the fact that they're still alive and well is amazing!
