Biomagnification by Riley Daniel Emma Justin

In this lab, we learned about different animal types in the ocean and different characteristics of them. We learned about biomagnification and how it affects the environment. There is more concentration of dangerous toxins in their systems for animals higher up in the food chain, due to the consumption of numerous smaller organisms bellow in the food chain.
The chemical chlorphyrifos can certainly affect larger, terrestrial organisms as well as marine organisms. Because of an extensive food chain, the toxin can widely be passed to other many organisms and many different ecosystems, having a negative impact on them. We agree that the chemical ban is a good idea, and can keep the ecosystems intact and thriving. By banning this chemical in small quantities, we can have a massive impact on larger animals throughout the environment.

  1. Our group also decided that a ban on chlorphyrifos was a good idea because of the effect it could have as it worked its way up the food chain affecting all sorts of animals, and eventually ending up in high concentrations in the top predator.

  2. The high concentration of chlorphyrifos will also end up getting intop our system due to us being a top predator which isn't good for us.
