Introduction: Daniel Fouty

Hi everyone. There are several reasons that I am taking this course. I need one more science class to complete my AA direct transfer degree. However, the subject of marine biology interests me greatly. Usually when I took a biology class in general, it would usually be about biology as a general topic, not focusing on one aspect of the subject in particular. When I found out that marine biology was offered, I had to take it. I also love the statement that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about our own oceans and what lives in them, so I think that taking this class will hopefully help me understand more about life in our oceans, how different organisms operate at different depths, and how they function altogether.

After completing my AA direct transfer degree, I hopefully will be attending the University of Washington this September, with a major in either business management, or American history. After graduating from UW, I will be joining the US Navy.

I have taken several biology related courses in high school pertaining to the subject in general, as discussed above, but not anything specifically on marine biology, which is why I am excited to take this class. If this counts as a marine connection, I really used to enjoy going down to the aquarium when I was in elementary school to observe the marine life, as I have always loved the water, and swimming in particular.

My favorite marine animal is definitely the giant squid. There's no particular reason for this, I just think that they are awesome creatures who use their arms and tentacles to their advantage.

Something you wouldn't know by looking at me is that I have lived in both Tokyo and London, and that I love to hike and climb on any trail or any mountain in Washington, as my picture shows.

  1. I have seen a lot of videos and documentaries on giant squids. Squids are terrifying. If you like the giant squid, look up the "Red Devil" Humboldt Squid. I've also heard that fact that we know more about the moon than our oceans. That is some pretty intriguing stuff. Also, if you like hiking, check out the "Three Fools Trail." The view up there is incredible, much like in your picture. It was quite a trip.
