Introduction- Nona Faletoi

Hey Everyone! My name is Nona and this picture was taken when I first moved to Washington last August. So basically, the day that I gave up 80 degree weather, beaches and palm trees to live in 30 degree weather with A LOT of rain. I have been surrounded by the ocean my whole entire life and I LOVE it! I was born in Hawaii but I grew up on a small island in the South Pacific, American Samoa.

This photo to the right is my home and it is surrounded by a humongous coral reef. So there's not many white sandy beaches but there is a great amount of marine life. I am taking this course because I am interested in marine life. I also want to learn how to take care of it too. I am currently working on my AA in biology. So depending on how this class goes, I may pursue a career in marine biology.

I absolutely LOVE turtles and dolphins! I think they are beyond cute and it is amazing how loving they are. I see them daily since the beach is basically my front yard.

FUN FACT: I like to swim at waterfalls and do stand-up paddle boarding. I have sailed out on a Hawaiian canoe like the big one in the movie Moana lol and it was like riding a roller coaster. So if you're not balanced while on the boat, you WILL fall over.

  1. Turtles are awesome! I got a chance to swim with turtles in Hawaii a couple years back. They are really cool. Also, your home looks like paradise! I hope to experience more tropical waters in the future.

  2. The movie Moana has easily become one of my favorite movies so I think it's super neat that you've ridden on a big canoe like in the movie! I bet it was a great experience

  3. You're from Hawaii? What Island? I was born in Oahu, Honolulu. I am totally jealous that you got to experience the Islands more than I did!

  4. Hello Nona! I've checked on a map where is American Samoa. I never heard about this island before. It looks amazingly beautiful! You are very lucky to have grown up in such a paradisiac environment. I suppose that the cold and rain of Seattle might have been a big change for you! Do you plan on working on marine biology back to American Samoa?
