Lab 3: Bre, Riley, Kathleen, Lynn

During our lab, we observed how as the DDT moved through each species the amount of pesticide in each species continued to raise. Most phytoplankton remained unaffected and some zooplankton still remained pesticide free. Once we reached the level of the pyramid containing fish, none of the fish remained unaffected.

The pesticide chlorpyrifos can be extremely dangerous to not only insects, but other animals and humans. Just like in the lab, the pesticide will eventually move up through the pyramid and accumulate in each animal until reaching the top, where it has accumulated, causing the most problems. Chlorpyrifos can even harm someone by having contact with it on your skin. Chlorpyrifos is a very dangerous pesticide not only for ourselves, but for all animals that would come into contact with the pesticide, or eat other animals that already have it in their system.

  1. Our group had some different numbers, only because we had one less plankton with DDT, but even though our numbers are slightly different its cool to still see the same trend in the data. Our group also agreed that chlorpyrifos was a really bad chemical and could cause a lot of problems if it were to biomagnify up the food chain.

  2. This is actually terrifying how fast and harmful the pesticide chlorpyrifos can spread among the pyramid and all the food chain. That makes me scared concerning the human pollution, and for the future of our planet...
