Lab 3- Katie, Kyle, Dena, Alicia

Through this lab we have learned about the different characteristics of marine invertebrates: sponges, cnidarians, segmented worms, molluscs, arthropods, echinoderms, and chordates (the vertebrates). We learned how to differentiate between acoelomates, pseudocoelomates, and coelomates and the different types of triploblastic organisms.
We also learned about biomagnification. We were extremely surprised how much DDT the Osprey ended up with even though there seemed to be a little amount at the base of the food chain.
Based on what we learned during the miomagnification experiment, our group agrees that this insecticide should be banned because it could end up working its way up through the food chain and endanger many different species.

  1. It sounds like we got very similar results, and learned similar things from this lab. My group was also very surprised about how much ddt ended up in the osprey, because there didn't seem to be very much when we stared. That just shows how important bio magnification can really be.
