The plankton I worked on was made of pipe cleaners, and I gave it a cork to made it float a bit. It was almost a bit too buoyant, but adding more pipe cleaners wasn't the solution. Maybe adding beads or something else would work. The inspiration for this plankton came from the algae plankton I saw under the microscope during lab.

My group tried to use cork as well, but like you found it was very buoyant and we ended up just getting rid of it because we couldn't find anything that would weigh it down enough.
