About Me - Riley Monroe

I took this Marine Biology course because I took a marine bio class in high school and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wished to continue seeing what this type of class could do for me and hoped I could have as good of a time as before! What I want to learn in this course is the difference in life-style between shore fish and deep water fish as well as mankind's impact on sea life as a whole and what we could do to fix that. My career goal as of now is to work in the medical field, although I'm not sure what in the field I wish to do. Maybe marine bio will convince me to swap paths! My experience with marine systems will have mostly come from my previous courses in marine biology in high school. I feel I have a decent understanding but there is always more to learn. I would have to say my favorite marine organism is the giant pacific octopus. I think these creatures are amazing and of course the largest of any animal is always the coolest one. They also interest me since I scuba dive as well and encounter them fairly frequently in their habitat. Another interesting thing about myself is that I am an avid ultimate frisbee player! I have been playing for many years now and on a nice sunny day want nothing more than to toss the disc around with some friends.

  1. Hi Riley! I love scuba diving too. I've also encountered the octopus many times, it's a fascinating creature! Did you know that the octopus' brain is compared as the human one? Indeed, they have a big memory, and have some human-like tendencies.

  2. Hi Riley! I have always thought that scuba diving sounds like so much fun, although i've never actually done it myself. I think that the octopus is a cool animal too! I play Ultimate Frisbee too, which is so cool, as there doesnt seem to be many people who really play it.
