Carkeek Park
Carkeek Park was my favorite lab so far! We found so many different organisms in the different quads that we went through. Though the first few quads included kind of the same thing, it was still interesting to see what was in the others. My group went to the far side of the beach where no one was really at; where the octopus could be found. There were organisms everywhere, sadly, even those that were dead. I saw a lot of these purple sea stars and so many sea anemones that were closed up to avoid desiccation. The sea star was definitely my favorite because the color is so beautiful and we found it hiding under a small rock. It was most likely hiding there to keep away from the sun. Sea stars are definitely predators and the sea anemones mostly play as hosts for other organisms such as clown fish. I learned that pacific northwest is home to so many organisms other than seaweed lol
Question: If there was not as much seaweed as there is in the pacific northwest, how would that affect the marine ecology?
I am so glad you had fun- there are so many interesting intertidal organisms... wish we had more time & good weather to play around near the ocean! 🐡
