Carkeek
I saw the organism in the second quadrant, the low tide zone. The crab was surprisingly not doing much. It was kind of just hanging around and even let us pick it up. The crabs role in the ecosystem is to eat smaller organisms in order to keep populations in check. The most interesting thing i saw today was a moon snail, as i had seen the nests before, but i had never seen an actual snail before. This beach and more specifically the lab changed my perspective about the waters here, because i never realized how much is living under your feet and how hard it can be for them to survive. One question i have that came up during this lab would be how much of this life is disturbed by humans. But more specifically, how many organisms are hurt or killed by people just walking around, unintentionally stepping on them?
Good question- I am sure all the people walking around on the rocks do have a big impact... not sure to what extent and I am sure some organisms are more sensitive than others.
