Carkreek park
This is a juvenile red rock crab found that was found in the inter-tidal zone at Carkreek park originally it was hiding under the seaweed (It was put back after this picture). When the tide goes out small crabs usually find somewhere to hide under rocks some can burrow a little or under seaweed. Crabs usual roles in the ecosystem are to scavenge and clean up dead things, they are also great food for many other predators. It was interesting to see all the little anemones in clumps closed up but they still retained a lot of water so they didn't dry up. I also didn't know that sea star wasting syndrome was a virus that could be spread by human touch.
We don't know for sure if the disease is spread by touch but it is a virus so touch is a possibility. 🐟
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that at Carkeek Park we saw starfish that appeared to have sea star wasting syndrome. I'm thinking that maybe the disease is more popular than I originally thought
