Edmonds marsh
The organism I got a photo of is the red-winged black bird. You can vaguely see the yellow and red on his wings in the photo below.
This male was flying between the tree/perch behind him, and then back to his tree calling for what I am assuming was a matting call. I went back the following weekend to get a picture of him, and he was in the same place still calling for a female. He eats insects like caterpillars, millipedes, and grasshoppers as well as seeds. So he contributes to seed distribution through digestion as well as insect control.
i saw the same bird im pretty sure which is really cool! i didnt even notice that it was doing a mating call to another bird, thats such a wonderful observation!
ReplyDeleteI also had the chance to capture the red-winged blackbird standing on the top of a cattail. That's interesting that you found out he was making a matting call. I wouldn't have thought about it! I hope he'll find his soulmate soon!
