Marsh by Naomi Faletti

I took this picture on the left side of the entrance. This purple flower was standing alone next to many native plants including Water Horsetail, Narrow Leaf Cattail, and Mar’s Tail which I thought was interesting. It stood out and looked pretty amongst all the green. At the same time, I started to wonder how did it ended up in the Marsh? Based on the leaf, it is a bulb family and possibly Hyacinthiodes.
Either it was brought by water drainage to the water shed from someone’s backyard,  brought by human, or my wild guess;  the possibility of a bird carrying it as it landed in the marsh. No matter what the reason, Huacinthiodes is not a native Marsh plant. I believe it will eventually disappear or it may spread. If it ends up spreading, it may interfere with water passage in the future. Therefore, it needs to be removed.

  1. Good observation. It may have be transported by the water if it is a bulb but perhaps by wind if not... there are a lot of residences nearby.
