Spencer Island

SO I saw many awesome organisms, sadly I was so caught up in the moment I didn't take a picture of them. I did however snap a pic of a blue heron on the way into the island. It wasn't doing much... just walking around a bit, and then it flew away just like that. Blue herons are awesome, they're consumers and probably help maintain the population of several little critters and fish from blowing up into an uncontrollable unbelievable amount, and in doing so help producers to not get over consumed. The most interesting thing I saw was a battle between an osprey and a crow, super cool! My money was on that crow the whole time! And the crow didn't let me down, my man the crow whooped that ospreys feathers out of that island! I didn't learn anything that changed my perspective, I did however see alot of water with apparently a very low oxygen level which was almost black and so that gave me a shook. I mean the color was bad, but what amazed me was that there were little bugs swimming about in it like nothing in the world bugged them (get it "bugged".... lol). They were the survivors of the dark black and lonely world. Since the blue heron wasn't really on the island, I also saw some trees that gave off a jungle vibe. I don't know was species, but they were a bit off to the side where there wasn't alot of mush. Question: How drastically would the puget sound marine life be affected if all local wetlands were to be completely removed?

  1. Hi Sahayra, I saw the osprey too! I however did not witness the battle between the osprey and the crow. I did find some plucked feathers on the ground which could of been plucked out from the osprey.

  2. Im glad you were right about rooting for the crow sounds like they really got into a tustle. I like how you thought about how the heron helps control the little critter populations so there is not an uncontrollable unbelievable amount, 10/10 on the dramatic word choice.

  5. We were so luckily to see the bird showdown... it's possible that the other bird was a red-tailed hawk but it was probably an osprey. The crow was surprisingly tough!

  6. I'm so bummed I had to leave early and didn't get to see all of Spencer island, but the bird fight was so cool I think another osprey came later too?
