Human-Impacts
I visited Edmonds Marsh since it happens to be right in my back yard! This ecosystem is an estuary situated right on the edge of the outer sound shoreline in Edmonds. It is full of a mix of salt and freshwater which allows for all sorts of life to flourish.
One very prominent human impact is the vastly reduced size of the Edmonds marsh. It has shrunk by almost 60% in past years because of human impact building over the land. Another impact is the oil and pesticides we let flow into drains, as they end up here which negatively effects much of life.
The visible impact of the used land is very noticeable as the area is surrounded on almost all sides by buildings and roads.
A long term effect of this impact is the inability of the estuary to properly function which would cause lots of types of animals and plants to die or move else where.
Human impact is detrimental to life in the Edmonds marsh.
What could be done to address these issues is to not allow big business to buy out these types of land to build over. We can also be much more mindful of what we allow to sink into our storm drains and home drains.
I like your example of humans building over the environment. I think that over time it will shrink even more due to the ever expanding presence of human construction projects.
