Shannon Point

The most interesting thing for me at Shannon Point was going out on the boat. I was on the second boat. We got two full buckets full of dark brown sea water that we had to blindly shove our hand into and hope for the best. The first thing that was taken out of the bucket was a large angry crab. We were then told to try our best to not grab another large, angry crab. Every time we stuck our hands into the bucket and felt something hard, one of us (if we're being totally honest, it was probably mostly me) would let out some sort of scream. In the end, most of it was for nothing because all two of the angry crabs were in the bucket I didn't have my hands in. Most of what we ended up pulling out was decorator crabs. We probably had 100+ of those guys. They weren't particularly happy about being pulled up, but they didn't have big enough claws to really hurt us. I think the coolest thing we picked up was the clown nudibranch, which ended up converting people to the "Nudibranch lyfe" One interesting thing I learned was that Zoea is a name for crab larvae. This is a picture of an anemone in one of the tanks outside.

  1. I loved that little clown nudibranch, it was so cute! I didn't like sticking my hand in the bucket either, except ours was full of shrimp.

  2. Oh my gosh we pulled out so many crabs from our bucket it was crazy haha but the worst for me was feeling something slimy and have it bolt away.
