In the picture above, on the right side next to the tiny fish you can see a clear, almost invisible ball. That is a Ctenophore also known as Sea gooseberries. This picture was taken right after we pulled the net up and were still sorting through the bucket. It wasn't really doing much from what I can see. Ctenophores are heterotrophes and eat fish eggs, larvae, copepod crustaceans, and sometimes other sea gooseberries. The most interesting thing I learned on the field trip to Shannon Point was just how much diversity was in the water. I did not expect to get as many different things as we did on the boat.
